Hey friends,

We are experiencing difficulty locating pesticide-free Aristolochia for caterpillars. Aristolochia is a plant genus with over 500 species. It is commonly known as pipevine and has heart-shaped leaves. We are specifically looking for Macrophylla or Durior.

If you have Aristolochia growing on a fence or behind your house and are willing to share some, please let us know. If it happens to be the wrong type of Aristolochia, we can still use it for other species of caterpillars. We have included photos of two types of Artistolochia for reference purposes.

We have contacted every local nursery in years past. All are run by very kind people. Unfortunately, they do not carry neonicotinoid-free Aristolochia.

Right now, the caterpillar species we have is in its chrysalis state. This species is known for being voracious, so we need to at least obtain cuttings, to breed the species for our upcoming entomology program.

We thank you in advance for your support.

Have you tried calling WildThings Rescue Nursery?? Dawn is completely pesticide free and focuses entirely on native plants. Shes amazing!

I think I have this growing in my front yard, I cant be sure of the exact species, but it sure looks like what I have growing like crazy in my front yard and some in the backyard. In fact I just had my son pull a whole bunch up in the front yard, but there is definitely more there. Grows like crazy.

Shared in Native Plants of the Northeast. Someone might be able to help out.

Hi. I think we spoke on the phone earlier. I don't have any potted at the moment...but LOTS in the gardens if you just need some leaves for munching! You are welcome to come & take what you need. (NO chemicals ever...clean plants)

I'll see if I can capture a sprout next time I see one. I just got done battling ours back to keep it from eating the house. It's ability to consume buildings or trees is probably why you don't see it sold much. Ours followed us here as a root division from an old rental farmhouse we lived in. Been dealing with it for over 30 years.

Also, did you check with WildThings Rescue Nursery ?

The Urban Naturalist I know Louisiana is a far different place than NY but would you have sources to offer? This place is close to my heart.

Peter D. Bowden

Landis Arboretum might have some available through their member network.

Christine Toma Hyatt can your daughter help?

Our Summer Sponsor a Child in Crisis Program has officially launched. Here are the Wish Tags of children in one of our domestic violence survivor empowerment programs.

Wish Tags with the same color background indicate the children are in the same household. Please note: some of the Wish Tags will be written by staff members to prevent abusers from identifying the handwriting of family members.

To Sponsor a Child in Crisis, you may make a monetary donation, or comment below the Wish Tag of the child(ren) you would like to sponsor. We will then confirm your choice.

The end of the academic year is just around the corner. This means many children will soon be without the safety net of going to school. Families enrolled in our Don’t Text Your Ex Program—an empowerment program for families impacted by domestic violence, need help more than ever.

Today, we will launch the summer version of our Sponsor-a-Child in Crisis Program. This year's Summer Wish Tags will be virtual, so there is no need to leave the house! But before we start posting them, here is some information about the program.
Each Summer Wish Tag lists one wish and one need of a child who has escaped violence in their home.

🌻What is the Sponsor-a-Child in Crisis Program?
The Summer Sponsor a Child in Crisis Program (AKA The Wish Tag Program) helps children who have endured recent traumatic events to receive toys and other items needed following their transition to safety. It also helps children in crisis to gain the items they require to survive (e.g., clothing, food, blankets, infant formula, diapers, and more).

🌻Where can I pick up a Sponsor-a-Child in Crisis Wish Tag?
A: This year's Summer Sponsor a Child in Crisis Program Wish Tags will be virtual. We will post Wish Tags in groups. You can also email [email protected] to request information about a child.

🌻What is the suggested amount to spend on each child?
A: Each Summer Wish Tag lists one wish and one need of a child impacted by violence in their homes. Some of the children have simple wishes, while others need summer clothing. The amount you choose to spend is up to you! The important thing is knowing that your gifts will provide children with the items they need to remain safe from their abusers.

🌻Can I still provide toys to a child even if they are not listed on a Wish Tag?
A: Absolutely!

🌻Where do I bring the items for the child I am sponsoring?
A: Items may be returned to the Things of My Very Own Crisis Intervention Center at 249 Green Street in Schenectady. Drop-off hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Be sure to label each bag with the child’s family number before coming to the building. All Summer Sponsor a Child in Crisis Gifts are to be brought to our reception doors. This will prevent them from getting intermixed with general aid.

🌻When are the items due?
A: All Summer Wish Tags have a due date of June 29th printed on them. We must receive the items on or before this date. Pick-up times are arranged with their outside agency caseworkers in advance as many of the families are still in hiding.

🌻Do the items I provide need to be new?
A: Yes, all items for our Sponsor-a-Child in Crisis Program must be new. We know that gently used items can be great; that is why we accept gently used clothing, coats, sneakers, comforters, quilts, pack ‘n plays, and strollers for our crisis intervention services.

🌻Do I wrap the items?
A: Items must be inspected before distribution; for this reason, we require that the items come back unwrapped. You are welcome to provide wrapping paper or gift bags for the child(ren) you are sponsoring; however, this is unnecessary.

🌻Can I provide a monetary donation instead of grabbing a Wish Tag?
A: Absolutely! We have worked for over 16 years to negotiate contracts and pricing with retailers and manufacturers throughout the United States. This allows us to purchase items for a fraction of retail prices. For this reason, monetary donations go much further than buying items in stores. You can donate on our website at thingsofmyveryown.org/donate/, through Venmo (TOMVOInc), or Paypal. The email address is [email protected].

How often do you post tags?

Do you ever look for people to be like a big brother big sister?
